Digital Resource
The digital facility consists of 4 laptops and 6 digital cameras and can be set up in 20 minutes. The Portrait Studio takes another 30 minutes to set up and consists of a 3 metre wide background on stands with a 6 metre paper backdrop and lights. The software used mostly is Adobe Photoshop for editing and manipulating images along with Roxio Creator for assembling narrated slideshows. A portable digital recording facility is available for music based projects. The software used is Cakewalk Sonar and Native Instruments Battery drum loop and sample player.
Photo-Lab Darkroom
The Photo-Lab darkroom can be set up in any suitable venue. It creates a fully functioning darkroom that can accommodate groups of up to 18 people at a time. The darkroom installation creates a unique and magical working space for participants where images can be made to appear using the photographic chemicals. All Photo-Lab darkroom projects are designed to be hands on, lo-tech, practical activities where participants use light and chemicals to expand their creative horizons.
Setting up the Darkroom The darkroom needs a large room with a minimum clear floor space of 24'x24'feet. An area outside the room is a good idea to allow for picture assembly and drying of photographs. It takes one day to set up the darkroom tent and 2 hours to pack it away after the last workshop. For this reason the minimum hire is for 6 days. Due to the use of photo-chemicals in the darkroom the minimum recommended age for participants is 8. A minimum of six 6'x2' tables (or equivalent) are required from the venue with another two for drying and laying out photographs. The darkroom needs easy access to water for changing the water buckets at the start and end of each day.
