Engage
DVD Stories Project

A theme-based project creating slideshows with an accompanying narrative. Participants can study a theme in detail using digital cameras. This content is then assembled into a video slideshow with an added voice-over.  These videos can be put together to create a final projection installation using the lightspace equipment. A DVD could also be made combining a series of these videos around a strong central theme.

Face up to it!
Portrait photography workshop

Participants learn how to use props, strong composition and lighting to create stunning images in the mobile portrait studio.  They can learn my own techniques for manipulating images in Photoshop before printing them out.  Participants can explore how to uncover more about themselves within the portrait photo format by adding words to describe their personality and adding images of their favourite personal objects.  Working with a writer, they can also add lines of poems or songs that they can write themselves. By involving a drama tutor they can explore the re-creation of strong emotions on camera.

JUMP!

Macro Monsters

This is a workshop that explores the impossible. During the workshop, participants expand their own ideas on the impossible using digital animation techniques. They can place themselves and inanimate objects in motion together to create a selection of impossible animated still frame videos.

Jump is a workshop that accompanies the Gravity exhibition and looks at the zero point in a jump when the energy of the jumper and the forces of gravity are in equilibrium. There is a brief moment of calm as this moment is reached before the inevitable descent. This is an energetic workshop with lots of jumping onto crash mats. Slow motion video capture can also isolate these jumps so that we can study the zero point more closely.

This is a workshop that accompanies the INFIN8 exhibition and studies the natural patterns in our local environment. A study in a local woodland or natural area is made using digital cameras. Using the extreme close up facility of these cameras it allows us to view the area with fresh eyes.  Printouts allow us to magnify the amazing things going on under out feet.  Some of the plant materials and glass slides of insects are then photographed using light boxes that let us see through the objects at the patterns held inside.
