Stopping Time
Human and inanimate object animation workshop

This is a 2 hour workshop introduction to digital animation using a variety of methods.  First is the use of participants themselves in their own animations. Short 10 frame moving sequences are created by the group and then shot using the digital cameras on tripods.  They learn how to use the cameras and download their images to the laptop computers. Simple animation software is used to create short video clips which can be burned onto CDs for the participants or even used as a digital display for exhibition. The group moves onto inanimate object animations using a selection of props and materials.  They finally combine these two techniques to create human/inanimate object animations.  The workshop can be extended by creating painted backgrounds and cut out figures for the groups animations.

Face to Face
Portrait photography workshop

Participants learn how to use props, costume and lighting to create stunning images in the mobile portrait studio. They manipulate their photographs in Photoshop and can add their favourite line from a poem or song before printing out the final image. An extension to this workshop allows participants to cut out their bodies and drop in a new background of a desert island or even the moons surface. Anything is possible!

Scannergrams
Digital microscopy

Using a high resolution flat-bed scanner and close up cameras, participants can study the patterns found in the natural world.  Scans are made of small natural objects such as insects and blown up on screen. The resulting images can be cropped at a certain magnifications and manipulated in Photoshop before being saved to CD. A workshop can be extended with a study of a specific natural area.

Burning Issues

Digital cameras are used to record images relating to a pre-discussed issue or topic. These images can then be manipulated in photoshop software and made into a slide show with voice commentaries or music. The resulting presentations can be transferred onto DVD.  A still image version of this workshop looks to create posters about certain issues combining text and images to create powerful statements. These can be printed out as large posters or printed onto t-shirts.
